Having to take time off to have your house photographed can be stressful enough as is, let alone having to make sure your house is photo ready. We’ve compiled some simple steps to follow to make it as hassle-free as humanly possible:
De-cluttering:
- Try hiding small objects, coats, clothes and shoes in places that we won’t need to photograph, for example: inside large cupboards, wardrobes, drawers, airing cupboards, attics, under beds, even your car if you have one!
- Don’t forget the bathrooms - stage it like a swanky hotel bathroom; excess bottles of shampoos and toiletries can look messy, so only have one or two products out, maybe one clean towel, folded (if you can make a swan, please make a swan) and placed somewhere aesthetically pleasing.
- Wires! Everything fun usually comes with a wire or two attached to it, so we know these will be tricky to tidy away. Try wrapping them all up and temporarily putting them in a drawer, or unplugging appliances on surfaces and putting them away.
- Fridge Art - we love to see it but the camera doesn’t! Unfortunately every kitchen photographs better when it looks like you’ve just unpacked everything out of the box - so we do suggest unsticking the magnets, vouchers and holiday momentos off the fridges.
Light & Colour:
- Open all your blinds and curtains and doors - we need all the natural light we can get, even if we’re having very english, grey weather, that light is better than anything coming from a bulb.
- White sheets on your bed - if you have them, use them! They will make your bedroom look bigger and reflect any natural light making the room look brighter! Plump up those throw pillows, you bought them for this purpose!
- Colour popping! In neutral rooms, having a lovely bunch of flowers, or a simple, colourful fruit bowl placed in the middle of a table can make such a difference and make it look very ‘show roomy’ - but don’t put fruit in the bathroom.
A little spring clean:
- Check your floors and carpets, try to get rid of any small stains or hoover up any dust bunnies that may be floating around.
- Give your cupboards and kitchen surfaces a wipe - streaks show up on the photos, the camera sees everything…Mr Sheen those shelves and surfaces - dust is the enemy!
Furry Friends:
- Everyone at Pink Plan has a little furry friend and we love them as much as anyone possibly could - unfortunately though, their food bowls, litter boxes and puppy training pads aren’t for the camera. If you can, pop these away temporarily, that would be great.
If you follow these simple steps you’ll be perfectly photo ready in no time at all!
